Book excerpt: A COMBINED VERSION OF JOHN'S BOOK OF REVELATION ACCORDING TO JESUS' REVEALED TRANSLATION AND HIS HISTORICAL FULFILLMENT The creation of this third teaching manual for THE BOOK OF REVELATION is prompted by the sheer number of symbols that John uses to portray hisvision, which is at least 250 major symbols and many other minor symbols not included here. So even the most dedicated student of THE BOOK OF REVELATION becomes weary trying to remember what all of those symbols are designated to mean. So we are incredibly fortunate that Jesus, himself, interpreted the meanings of all those symbols for us in his two books that he transmitted through his medium at the beginning of the 20th century in1908, simplified here as THE REVEALED TRANSLATION and ITS HISTORICALFULFILLMENT. But that still doesn't reduce the sheer number of symbols to a workable size for us struggling humans to grasp. So what is most needed here is a simplified version that will isolate the most important symbols and weave them together in a logical narrative that even a newcomer to THE BOOK OF REVELATION can readily understand. So thatis what we have after we have reduced 250 symbols to 62 in this third teaching manual. Then if someone wants more detail, they areavailable in the two prior manuals. But what is most needed at this stage is a primer that covers the basic elements of THE BOOK OFREVELATION in the most easily understandable form. Therefore, passages from John's Revelation are quoted, then followed by their corresponding passages from Jesus' two revelations. Thereby, what we have created in this third teaching manual is a streamlined version that spells out in more understandable form the basic messages of THE BOOK OF REVELATION.

This book was released on 2018-04-16 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many evangelicals have come to embrace a populist eschatology that has neither the support of the historical church, nor of the scholarly world today. For some, this has led to a disillusionment with eschatological speculations. For others, the results are apathy and a failure to understand the mission of God's people. This is tragic! For when the entirety of the New Testament is read and understood from an eschatological perspective, the grand narrative of Scripture and its fulfillment in Jesus comes clearly into focus. A proper framework for understanding eschatology directly correlates to a proper understanding of the mission of God's people, who are themselves carrying forth the biblical story as we approach the New Jerusalem. To fail to comprehend eschatology is to fail to comprehend our mission. This book has two objectives: First, to provide a proper hermeneutical framework from which we may discern a biblical eschatological worldview. Second, to demonstrate that a proper eschatological framework relates to the mission of God's people and the demand for holiness. Thus, eschatology matters!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monumental commentary on the book of Revelation, originally published in 1999, has been highly acclaimed by scholars, pastors, students, and others seriously interested in interpreting the Apocalypse for the benefit of the church. Too often Revelation is viewed as a book only about the future. As G. K. Beale shows, however, Revelation is not merely a futurology but a book about how the church should live for the glory of God throughout the ages -- including our own. Engaging important questions concerning the interpretation of Revelation in scholarship today, as well as interacting with the various viewpoints scholars hold on these issues, Beale's work makes a major contribution in the much-debated area of how the Old Testament is used in the Apocalypse. Approaching Revelation in terms of its own historical background and literary character, Beale argues convincingly that John's use of Old Testament allusions -- and the way the Jewish exegetical tradition interpreted these same allusions -- provides the key for unlocking the meaning of Revelation's many obscure metaphors. In the course of Beale's careful verse-by-verse exegesis, which also untangles the logical flow of John's thought as it develops from chapter to chapter, it becomes clear that Revelation's challenging pictures are best understood not by apparent technological and contemporary parallels in the twentieth century but by Old Testament and Jewish parallels from the distant past.

Book excerpt: In the book of Revelation, John offers a peek at the steady march of society toward Christs kingdom on earth. Exotic language, symbols, and caricatures of the actors on the stage during Johns life provide a study in the intolerable politics of the Roman Empire, which was in power during the life of Christ and of John, his disciple. Author Sandy Millers Understanding the Book of Revelation as Cultural Literature brings a new and different perspective to this important biblical book. She considers such questions as what the vision says about the God John worships, and if Johns God is just, why he delays justice for those martyred for their faith. When the seventh angel trumpets the time for God to destroy those who destroy the earth(Rev. 11:18d), there are no bloody victims in Johns Armageddon. The only weapon used is the Sword of Truth. Christs white robe is stained with the blood of his own self-sacrifice. His armys battle garb is clean and white. This war is differenta battle for the hearts and minds of menfought daily by Christ and his army of truth tellers. Martyrs find comfort when the destroyers hearts are changed, but if they still need a sacrifice, justice demands they sacrifice themselves. Understanding the Book of Revelation as Cultural Literature provides guidelines to help you and your students to understand what some may find complicated. Most importantly, a better understanding of this book in particular can lead to a better understanding of the Bible and God as a whole.

This book was released on 1999-06-01 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the variety of ways John contextually uses the Old Testament in the Apocalypse. The introduction surveys and evaluates recent studies, which have been divided over the issue of whether or not John uses the Old Testament with sensitivity to its original literary context (Beale, Fekkes and Bauckham argue in the affirmative, while Ruiz and Moyise contend that this was not John's focus and see implications for 'reader-response criticism'). The remainder of the book looks at various ways in which John uses the Old Testament and argues that there is a reciprocal interpretative relationship between the Old Testament and the Apocalypse. Studies of special interest concern the bearing of the Old Testament on Revelation's eschatology, on the issue of the millennium, and on the thorny problem of the grammatical solecisms.
