Book excerpt: I loved you even before I knew it, The scent of your skin still lingers on my senses, I can see that we are blinded by our natural magnetism towards each other, We are dancing to each others' tunes, rhythmic beats, And still you say that between us there can be 'Anything else but love!' Shewali Singh is a simple, sweet and appealing girl who cares for family and its values. She has just moved to Bangalore to head a project. Always engaged in work, somewhere she has imagined a list of qualities her guy should have. But as her fate would have it, she bumps into a guy who works in the same office as hers. And not only that, he's a flirt, a prankster, who calls himself the Avi Malhotra, who not only misfits the list, but also manages to get a rise out of the generally very easy going Shewali. What follows is, daily fights, gradual friendship, sudden likeness, and then–? All the rules of the artist's sketch of their better half are thus broken. But, what rules do you follow when you start falling in love? Will the phrase “Opposites attract†hold true for them?
Download or read book I Can Give You Anything But Love PDF or another Format written by Gary Indiana and published by Rizzoli Publications. This book was released on 2015-09-08 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The long-awaited memoir from one of the most acclaimed radical writers in American literature. Described by the London Review of Books as one of “the most brilliant critics writing in America today,” Gary Indiana is a true radical whose caustic voice has by turns haunted and influenced the literary and artistic establishments. With I Can Give You Anything but Love, Gary Indiana has composed a literary, unabashedly wicked, and revealing montage of excursions into his life and work—from his early days growing up gay in rural New Hampshire to his escape to Haight-Ashbury in the post–summer-of-love era, the sweltering 1970s in Los Angeles, and ultimately his existence in New York in the 1980s as a bona fide downtown personality. Interspersed throughout his vivid recollections are present-day chapters set against the louche culture and raw sexuality of Cuba, where he has lived and worked occasionally for the past fifteen years. Connoisseurs will recognize in this—his most personal book yet—the same mixture of humor and realism, philosophy and immediacy, that have long confused the definitions of genre applied to his writing. Vivid, atmospheric, revealing, and entertaining, this is an engrossing read and a serious contribution to the genres of gay and literary memoir.

Download or read book The Religious Philosophy of Simone Weil PDF or another Format written by Lissa McCullough and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2014-07-23 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The French philosopher Simone Weil (1909-1943), a contemporary of Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre, remains in every way a thinker for our times. She was an outsider, in multiple senses, defying the usual religious categories: at once atheistic and religious; mystic and realist; sceptic and believer. She speaks therefore to the complex sensibilities of a rationalist age. Yet despite her continuing relevance, and the attention she attracts from philosophy, cultural studies, feminist studies, spirituality and beyond, Weil's reflections can still be difficult to grasp, since they were expressed in often inscrutable and fragmentary form. Lissa McCullough here offers a reliable guide to the key concepts of Weil's religious philosophy: good and evil, the void, gravity, grace, beauty, suffering and waiting for God. In addressing such distinctively contemporary concerns as depression, loneliness and isolation, and in writing hauntingly of God's voluntary 'nothingness', Weil's existential paradoxes continue to challenge and provoke. This is the first introductory book to show the essential coherence of her enigmatic but remarkable ideas about religion.

Download or read book Sounding Solitude PDF or another Format written by Sr Mary Paul Cutri OCD and published by ICS Publications. This book was released on 2011-11-10 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solitude is a universal experience. For some people, its connotations of loneliness and isolation are terrifying prospects. Others seek it out, sensing solitude’s potential for bringing depth and creativity to their lives. Even those who embrace it willingly, however, discover at some point that solitude, like nature, has its changing seasons. Why write a book about solitude? One answer: God. Those who are God seekers often turn to solitude to listen to God, to be present to God, to be attentive to God’s word, wisdom and Spirit. Embraced purposefully, solitude enables us to cultivate another way of seeing and being, to be more open to discovery of and exploration into those unfathomable riches we call God.
