This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If history he accurately defined as philosophy teaching by examples, no branch of it can contain lessons of philosophy so interesting and important as the history of the church. Taking the terms in the most comprehensive sense, church history for more than four thousand years is matter of express revelation. It is the history of man and of Divine providence in their most momentous aspects, and has therefore been selected from the common trains of history to form the subject of an inspired chronicle. The Acts of the Apostles complete the annals; thenceforth ecclesiastical history flows from a different origin. Aeterna Press

Download or read book Henry viii PDF or another Format written by Albert Pollard and published by Ozymandias Press. This book was released on 2018-01-19 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is perhaps a matter rather for regret than for surprise that so few attempts have been made to describe, as a whole, the life and character of Henry VIII. No ruler has left a deeper impress on the history of his country, or done work which has been the subject of more keen and lasting contention. Courts of law are still debating the intention of statutes, the tenor of which he dictated; and the moral, political, and religious, are as much in dispute as the legal, results of his reign. He is still the Great Erastian, the protagonist of laity against clergy. His policy is inextricably interwoven with the high and eternal dilemma of Church and State; and it is well-nigh impossible for one who feels keenly on these questions to treat the reign of Henry VIII. in a reasonably judicial spirit. No period illustrates more vividly the contradiction between morals and politics. In our desire to reprobate the immorality of Henry's methods, we are led to deny their success; or, in our appreciation of the greatness of the ends he achieved, we seek to excuse the means he took to achieve them. As with his policy, so with his character. There was nothing commonplace about him; his good and his bad qualities alike were exceptional. It is easy, by suppressing the one or the other, to paint him a hero or a villain. He lends himself readily to polemic; but to depict his character in all its varied aspects, extenuating nothing nor setting down aught in malice, is a task of no little difficulty...

Download or read book Hell No PDF or another Format written by S. L. Miller and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-08-24 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If we believe the Bible is the inerrant, divinely inspired word of God, from Genesis to Revelation, what is said within its pages about God and his unchangeable character must be consistent and never contradictory. Furthermore, in order to love God with all our heart, believing him to be a just, merciful, and loving God, what we believe from the Scriptures must adhere to the three Cs: Context, Consistency, and Character. For centuries, people have formulated doctrine by taking passages out of context. They have made conclusions about God’s character in an inconsistent fashion and often in ways that malign our righteous and holy Creator. When Jesus came to earth, he did not form a new religion; he was a Jew and knew that God had given the sacred pronouncements of truth to the nation of Israel. What he taught about hell, death, resurrection, and judgment is entirely consistent with what God taught his people through the Mosaic Law, the prophets, and the psalms. In Hell No: The Surprising Truths the Bible Teaches about Death, Resurrection, and Judgment, you will see that the Bible is clear: humans never have and never will go to heaven, they are not inherently immortal, God will never torture souls in a hellfire, and all those who died and have paid the price for their sin (death) will be resurrected on earth during the judgment period with a clean slate and an opportunity to truly know God as they “learn war no more” under Christ’s millennial reign. Hell No is a serious deep dive into Scripture but also a conversational foray into truth, written by a layperson for laypeople serious about searching the deep things of God to uncover the Bible’s truths in order to better know and love their Creator.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though more than four hundred years have elapsed since the Bishops' Bible was first published in 1568, its story has never been adequately told. No book-length evaluation has been published, and no adequate bibliography is available for guidance in studying this least known of the Tudor-period Bibles. This neglect is surprising in that Shakespeare's earlier plays reflect his use of the Bishops' Bible and that the Bishops' Bible was used by the translators of the King James Version as the basis for their revision. This study depicts the religious, literary, and intellectual atmosphere that produced the Bishops' Bible, describes its place in sixteenth-century translations, re-evaluates its contribution to the study of the English Bible, and investigates the history and qualifications of the men invited to participate in the translation project. Attention is given to the artwork, the most elaborate of any in first editions of early English Bibles, and to the notes designed to correct the objectionable Calvinistic notes of the Geneva Bible. A presumption that the bishops would not prepare a better Bible until "a day after domesday" gives the title to this study--The Day after Domesday.
