Redesigning Gender is a gamble that demonstrates how much the networking activity of universities, together with other society actors, such as our publisher here, and all over the world, can contribute to bringing different cultures together, to help them grow in their respective socio-cultural contexts. This volume is a result of academic cooperation between the University of Tuscia, Viterbo, Italy and the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), Tbilisi, Georgia. The papers were written by academic staff and young researchers working at TSU. They all discuss some of the issues concerning gender from different points of view. Gender has become an interesting issue for research in academia due to its interdisciplinarity. This volume reveals the diversity of the directions for research in this respect. This series is dedicated to all those who have always believed that gender studies, as a transdisciplinary field, could have a future in the academia.

This book was released on 2020-11-01 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "If you wish to be alive many times with different personalities and various experiences, watch and appreciate a significant number of films. Undergo through the imagination and ponder their numerous stories as if you were living in those stories.” Watching good films make me encounter different events as if I dived and became part of the films. I interact with various roles in the films, feel the story of the depth or falsehood of love, the struggle, the friendship, the success or the failure, the betrayal, and the tragedy presented in the films. Every week I watch about 3-10 films, it depends on my other activities. My friends who know my fixation with films say that being a political or business consultant is just my side job. And my main job is watching films. It is not the satisfaction of watching the latest movies that move me. But it is the film that made me feel like I was making a spiritual journey into the atmospheres and events in the films. My mind is truly enriched. While watching the movie, I laughed, got angry, was overwhelmed, choked, and shed the tears. I came across Richard Nixon’s words: “If you want to explore politics, don’t read political science books, but read religion, philosophy, and literature.” Based on my personal experience, Nixon’s quote needs to be revised and expanded. If you want to explore the human spirit and the character, watch a good film. Contemplate and live it as if you were engaged in the events taking place in the film.

Download or read book Hits PDF or another Format written by Peter Szendy and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hits: Philosophy in the Jukebox is an extraordinary foray into what apple has convinced us is "the soundtrack of our lives." How does music come to inhabit us, to possess and haunt us? What does it mean that a piece of music can insert itself--Szendy's term for this, borrowed from German, is the earworm--into our ears and minds? In this book, Peter Szendy probes the ever-growing and ever more global phenomenon of the hit song. Hits is the culmination of years of singular attentiveness to the unheard, the unheard-of, and the overheard, as well as of listening as it occurs when one pays anything but attention. Szendy takes us through our musical bodies, by way of members and instruments, playing and governing apparatuses, psychic and cinematic doublings, political and economic musings. The hit song, Szendy concludes, functions like a myth, a force of repetition that grows by force of repetition. In the repetition generated by the song's relation to itself, Szendy locates its production as a fetishized commodity, a self-producing structure, and a self-desiring machine. Like a Deleuzian machine, then, the hit song is a technology of the self, or better, a technology of rule, a bio-melo-technology. After reading this book, one can no longer avoid realizing that music is more than a soundtrack: It is the condition of our lives. We are all melomaniacs, Szendy tells us in his unique style of writing and of thought. We are melo-obsessive subjects, not so much driven to a frenzy by a music we hardly have time to listen to as governed and ruled by it.

Book excerpt: "What they’re saying about One Life or The Lives of Chester Knowles: ""...Surely it is a dubious literary device- a bit of an underhanded, indeed a chear trick - to use a reincarnation as the premise for a novel. But proving once again that he is above nothing, Mr. Baum seizes upon the idea of reincarnation and squeezes it for all it's worth in this strangely fascinating story about a Los Angeles architect. Chester Knowles, who dies and then somehow discovers himself in another man's body..."" ""...the dramatic twists and turns of Chester's new, second life take the reader on a psycho-philosophical, new-age crazy kind of roller coaster ride/odyssey that will actually have the poor reader howling and screaming for more..."" ""...Baum has created a gem, a tour-de-force of storytelling and literary craftmanship. We recommend this book highly. "
