Scandalous death sells papers. But as the media frenzy feeds on the wealthy Thomas Anders, strangled to death with black velvet in his plush Park Avenue apartment, Lieutenant Eve Dallas grapples with just one question: a crime of passion or a cold extermination? Things don't add up. The victim didn't struggle and everyone has an alibi. And when a throwaway comment opens up a horrifying secret, Eve is fighting for far more than justice. Book excerpt: In a world that has drifted far away from the truth towards falsehood, this book has come to serve as compass to redirect humanity on the path of truth and a blessed future. In a world where hate, racism, anti-Semitism and xenophobia have joined forces to contend with the spirit of love, integration and inclusion, this book has come to shine as a light in darkness to bring understanding to the simple-minded. In a world where divisiveness has become a norm, this book has come to remind us that the middle wall of partition had been broken down by Jesus Christ who had made all people one in him. This book is a compendium of the heartbeat of God on the subject of ‘Stranger hood' that has been greatly undermined in the past and in the present but is key to human progress "Bigotry dwarfs the soul by shutting out the truth" Edwin Hubbel Chapin

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hundreds of German-speaking film professionals took refuge in Hollywood during the 1930s and 1940s, making a lasting contribution to American cinema. Hailing from Austria, Hungary, Poland, Russia, and the Ukraine, as well as Germany, and including Ernst Lubitsch, Fred Zinnemann, Billy Wilder, and Fritz Lang, these multicultural, multilingual writers and directors betrayed distinct cultural sensibilities in their art. Gerd Gemünden focuses on Edgar G. Ulmer’s The Black Cat (1934), William Dieterle’s The Life of Emile Zola (1937), Ernst Lubitsch’s To Be or Not to Be (1942), Bertold Brecht and Fritz Lang’s Hangmen Also Die (1943), Fred Zinneman’s Act of Violence (1948), and Peter Lorre’s Der Verlorene (1951), engaging with issues of realism, auteurism, and genre while tracing the relationship between film and history, Hollywood politics and censorship, and exile and (re)migration.

Book excerpt: There is an inevitable running battle between natives and strangers that several cases in the Holy Scriptures lend credence to. The perennial politics and hiccups of managing migration by nations have spurred this discourse that all and sundry should be knowledgeable about. Herein is useful information for border agencies, migrants, their relatives, and even parents who are based back home. It would assist counselors to help potential migrants across the globe. The role of God in the unending conflict between nations migrant managers and migrants is highlighted here. Parents should read to help them guide their children about issues that are bound to arise as a result of living in a foreign land.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strangers at Home reframes the way we conceive of the modernist literature that appeared in the period between the two world wars. This provocative work shows that a body of texts written by ethnic writers during this period poses a challenge to conventional notions of America and American modernism. By engaging with modernist literary studies from the perspectives of minority discourse, postcolonial studies, and postmodern theory, Rita Keresztesi questions the validity of modernism's claim to the neutrality of culture. She argues that literary modernism grew out of a prejudiced, racially biased, and often xenophobic historical context that necessitated a politically conservative and narrow definition of modernism in America. With the changing racial, ethnic, and cultural makeup of the nation during the interwar era, literary modernism also changed its form and content. ø Contesting traditional notions of literary modernism, Keresztesi examines American modernism from an ethnic perspective in the works of Harlem Renaissance, immigrant, and Native American writers. She discusses such authors as Countee Cullen, Nella Larsen, Zora Neale Hurston, Anzia Yezierska, Henry Roth, Josephina Niggli, Mourning Dove, D?Arcy McNickle, and John Joseph Mathews, among others. Strangers at Home makes a persuasive argument for expanding our understanding of the writers themselves as well as the concept of modernism as it is currently defined.
